You can know how much memory your java application is taking on Linux using

  • The jstat -gccapacity [pid] will give you information about the memory pool generation and space capabilities.
  • The jstat -gcutil [pid] will give you the information about the utilization of each generation as a percentage of its capacity.

The PID is the unique process identifier that is associated with each java process.
