Nohup is basically a command used by a server for running a process. In the case of long-running jobs nohup is best to use. On every UNIX computer server, the nohup is available. It is for great use in the Linux system when you want your system not to stop any command after the start. The syntax for nohup is also simple for users to use. You may not be going to need a nohup command on a daily basis but it is quite helpful when you are in need of running a process till it gets completed. Nohup is the short term for the No hangups.

    The nohup syntax looks like:

    nohup sh your-script.sh
