The Nuts and Bolts of Preparing for Job Interviews

Writing a resume is only half the task done when preparing for job interviews.

There are several other things that you need to look into before the big day comes. It’s given that you’ll feel nervous especially if this is your first time to experience applying for jobs. Do not let jitters get the best of you though.

Exude confidence, stay calm and follow these Job Interview Preparation Tips.

Do your homework

Imagine going out on a date with someone you really like. You spend some time conducting research about the person – their interests, hobbies, and even their circle of friends. You exert effort because you want to impress and connect with the person easily. You want them to like you back.

The same goes for job interviews.

Conduct research about the company. Find out more about their history and clients. This shall help you draw interesting questions and provide meaty responses. You might want to inquire as well about your interviewer. Once you get their name, check out their social networking accounts so you can get a grasp of their personality and background.

Practice your answers

So you have already thought of the best answers to possible interview questions. The challenge you ought to take now is delivering your response in a natural way. The more natural your statement is said, the more confident you appear.

Highlight your strengths. Mention as well internships or jobs you have had. Pick those details that are related to the job or position you are applying for. Be honest about your weaknesses. Show employers that you are working on overcoming it.

Remember that it is okay to pause for a few seconds so you can organize your thoughts then share statements that do not make sense.

Dress for success

Look professional. Dress accordingly for your job interview. Wearing too much perfume might put off interviewers. Take it easy as well on your accessories.

Deciding on your outfit can eat too much time and that could be dangerous if you will do it on the interview day itself. Stick to neutral colors to avoid attracting unnecessary attention. Another tip is to observe the employees of the company, like the clothes and accessories they are wearing. You want employers to remember you for your pleasant personality and not for the inappropriate outfit you pulled off during the interview.

List down questions

Nothing can be more awkward than being asked if you have any questions, and then quickly responding you have none.

Think about questions you would like to ask interviewers ahead of time. If you happen to know a friend or someone working in the company, grab that opportunity and gather information from the company website to answers are not found there.

Refrain from asking as well about salary and promotional opportunities. These concerns should be raised once you are already hired.
