While moving an object why water should be normalized?

Vectors have to be normalized while moving an object because normalization turns the vector unit length. For the instance, if the user wants to move along with the speed of 20.0 multiplying direct vector will result in the precision of 20.0 units per step. With the random vector length, step varies individually.
